Aenaon Project Park Athens Coastline

The Regional Governor of Attica made special mention of the creation of the new Metropolitan Park “Aenaon”, which will reunite the urban fabric with the sea after decades. Asked about the characteristics of this ambitious project and the strategy that will be followed regarding its sustainable operation and management so that it remains “alive” and resilient in the future, Mr. Hardalias underlined the following: “The project was received by the current Regional Authority on the verge of disintegration due to delays, sloppiness and bureaucratic procedures. On January 3, 2024, just twenty-four hours after assuming my duties as Regional Governor, I received a phone call from Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who had embraced the prospect of this project from the very beginning and together we attempted to do everything possible to move forward with the implementation of the Metropolitan Park. Thanks to a series of key actions, we managed to regain credibility with the European Commission, ultimately securing 370 million euros. The project was reinstated, entered a financing track and now the relevant international tender with binding timetables is currently underway. We will have a contractor in January, we will have a contract by June 2026 and the completion horizon is set at the end of 2028. So where there was stagnation, we brought a plan, credibility and financing, putting the project back on track.
