What is Going On in Atokos

The Interministerial Committee for Strategic Investments, convened by Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos, recently approved an €85.4 million tourism investment by the Tsakos family group on the island of Ithaca. The project, led by the subsidiary Atokos EPE, is designated as a strategic investment aimed at creating a luxurious tourist complex in the Filiatro area. The plans for the development, reportedly named "Epic\_O" and inspired by Homer's *Odyssey*, include a five-star hotel with 60 beds, 50 luxury villas, a spa, and restaurants. Crucially, the complex will also feature a tourist port facility complete with a seaplane base.

The facility secured environmental approval earlier in 2025 and will be built on a plot of approximately 326.8 acres, which forms part of a larger private estate in the region. The Tsakos family also owns the nearby uninhabited island of Atokos. This major tourism initiative is projected to generate 71 new jobs, significantly boosting the local economy and upgrading Ithaca's profile as a high-end travel destination.
