Greece and Croatia Forge Strategic Tourism Alliance

Greek Minister of Tourism, Olga Kefalogianni, and her Croatian counterpart, Tonči Glavina, held a pivotal bilateral meeting in Dubrovnik to significantly strengthen strategic cooperation in tourism between the two Mediterranean nations. The discussion focused on aligning policies to address shared sector challenges, primarily ensuring destination sustainability, enhancing resilience against increasing visitor numbers, and protecting the social and environmental fabric of local communities. Both ministers underscored the necessity of a modern approach to destination management that effectively balances continued economic growth with quality of life and environmental preservation.

A central element of the Greek presence was the proposal for joint European action. Minister Kefalogianni specifically sought Croatia's support for establishing a dedicated tourism funding line within the next European Union budget. This financial mechanism is viewed as crucial for funding sustainable infrastructure and initiatives, especially as the EU prepares its first unified tourism strategy for 2026. Furthermore, the two countries agreed to explore joint promotional efforts in rapidly expanding long-haul markets, such as India and South Korea. The strategy also includes developing special-interest tourism forms, including cultural, gastronomic, and mountain tourism, confirming a shared vision for quality, balanced growth, and regional leadership in sustainable travel throughout the year.
