Minister Kefalogianni in Philoxenia

Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni, speaking at the opening of the 40th Philoxenia exhibition, affirmed the continued strong performance of the Greek tourism sector, projecting record highs for 2025 after two successful years. She reported that current figures indicate a rise in both arrivals and travel receipts, with a notable double-digit increase in revenue during the shoulder and winter seasons. The Minister attributed this success to a coherent national strategy aimed at expanding tourism geographically and year-round, moving towards sustainable growth. She outlined key government initiatives designed to boost competitiveness and resilience, including a new environmental-based classification system for accommodation, safety standards for short-term rentals, streamlined licensing for infrastructure, and using EU funds for facility upgrades and digital tools. Furthermore, a core strategic goal is supporting the tourism workforce through strengthening educational institutions and implementing comprehensive training and reskilling programs. Finally, Kefalogianni noted Thessaloniki’s enhanced tourism profile, supported by its improved airport connectivity, the new Metro system, and fresh investments in hospitality infrastructure.
