Greece Tourism Extends Season

Greece's Tourism Sector Extends Season with Robust Winter Arrivals

The Greek tourism sector demonstrates powerful growth beyond the traditional summer season, with the first winter month seeing scheduled international airline seats reach nearly 1.3 million, marking a substantial increase of 10.7% compared to the previous year. This compelling quantitative data, tracked by the Airdata tracker, confirms Greece’s accelerating shift from a purely summer destination to a year-round travel hub.

The projected 1.28 million seats for the first month of winter reflect stable and growing demand, strongly supported by key source markets. Germany remains the largest, showing an increase of 10.4%, followed by the United Kingdom with a 3.7% rise. Notably, Israel registers the most impressive growth, with scheduled seats soaring by 71.8%. This surge in air connectivity primarily benefits major city-break destinations like Athens and Thessaloniki, which absorb the majority of the winter traffic, though the trend of season extension is also becoming evident across several popular islands. This dynamic expansion is creating more consistent business conditions for the sector, reducing seasonality, and boosting the country's economic outlook.
