Aenaon Project Starts

The redevelopment of Faliro Bay, as further solidified by recent government announcements, represents one of the largest urban regeneration projects in the Region of Attica. Spanning the coastline from the Peace and Friendship Stadium (SEF) to the Faliro Delta, the initiative aims to reconnect the urban fabric of Athens with the Saronic Gulf. Central to this vision is the creation of "Aenaon," a 541-stremma (approximately 134-acre) metropolitan park designed under the principles of the New European Bauhaus. The project emphasizes environmental sustainability and flood resilience, featuring extensive landscaping with over 4,000 trees and 185,000 shrubs, which will cover roughly 75 percent of the area.

Infrastructure works involve relocating and partially undergrounding Poseidonos Avenue to facilitate seamless pedestrian access to the waterfront. The remaining 25 percent of the park will be dedicated to diverse recreational, cultural, and sporting facilities, including swimming pools, 5x5 courts, an open-air cinema, and themed playgrounds. With a total budget of 370 million euros supported by European Union funding, the development is expected to transform the "Athenian Riviera" into a premier destination. Completion is targeted for 2028, promising free public access and a significant upgrade to the quality of life for residents in neighboring municipalities.
