Is Greek Tourism Safe?
The Greek Ministry of Tourism and UN Tourism (formerly UNWTO) have entered a strategic alliance focused on modernizing the country’s tourism sector through innovation, education, and sustainability. During high-level meetings, Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni emphasized the importance of upgrading tourism education and digital transformation to maintain long-term competitiveness. A key outcome of these discussions is the agreement for Greece to co-host a major international event titled "Culture and Tourism" in the first half of 2027, in collaboration with UN Tourism and UNESCO.
Sustainability remains a central priority, with both parties proposing a joint project to assess the impacts of climate change on coastal and island destinations. This initiative aims to develop risk prevention strategies, thermal resilience analysis, and sustainability indicators specifically tailored for the Mediterranean region. Additionally, the partnership seeks to foster entrepreneurship by linking the UN Tourism Innovation Hub with Greece’s CapsuleT Travel & Hospitality Accelerator. This synergy is designed to support startups and integrate cutting-edge technology into the hospitality industry. By focusing on environmental protection and the professional development of the younger generation, Greece aims to establish a resilient, year-round tourism model that serves as a global benchmark for balancing economic growth with cultural heritage preservation.
