Greece Summer 2026 Things to Do
In a recent interview with Greek National TV, Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni addressed the resilience of the Greek tourism sector amidst escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. She emphasized that despite the regional conflict, Greece maintains its reputation as a safe and stable destination, with no significant negative impact on bookings or cancellations recorded thus far. According to the Minister, official data indicates only marginal fluctuations, suggesting that international travelers continue to view the country as a secure sanctuary.
The Minister highlighted Greece's impressive post-pandemic recovery, noting that the country has consistently surpassed previous records. While 2023 was a landmark year, the figures for 2024 and 2025 show even greater momentum. Specifically, although arrivals increased by approximately 4%, tourism revenue saw a substantial 10% jump, rising from €21.6 billion in 2024 to an estimated €23.7 billion in 2025. This growth directly benefits local economies, as tourism remains a primary pillar of Greece’s national GDP.
Kefalogianni also discussed the potential indirect risks of the war, such as rising energy costs which could inflate airfares. However, she noted that Greece might also see increased demand as travelers divert from competing destinations currently perceived as higher risk. To further diversify the market, the government is expanding its reach into promising regions like Australia, with plans to open a Greek National Tourism Organization office in Melbourne. Ultimately, the Minister reaffirmed the government's commitment to stability and safety, ensuring that Greece remains a top-tier global destination despite international uncertainty.
