According to data presented by DERTOUR Group CEO Christoph Debus at the ITB Berlin 2026 international travel trade show, Greece has secured its position as the second most popular destination for European travelers for the upcoming summer season. .  Based on booking trends from the major German tourism conglomerate, Greece has surpassed Spain to take second place.

The group projects a robust growth trajectory for 2026, with an estimated 6.6% increase in revenue and a 4% rise in passenger volume. When accounting for the full integration of Hotelplan, these figures are expected to jump significantly to roughly 23% in revenue and 22% in customers. Despite a general climate of geopolitical uncertainty—particularly concerning conflicts in the Middle East and rising living costs—travel remains a top priority for European consumers, outranking savings and healthcare in planned expenditures. The report also highlights a growing preference for luxury among Eastern European travelers, with one in three opting for five-star accommodations. To maintain this momentum, DERTOUR is focusing on digital transformation and enhancing the customer experience, while travelers increasingly prioritize early booking discounts of up to 50% and flexible "Flex" packages to mitigate travel risks.
